What are the gory details of using Chamois Butt'r?(10 posts)

What are the gory details of using Chamois Butt'r?gibbons

OK, my skin has grown back, but I'm not going to lose it again. I bought some Chamois Butt'r to try to preserve my personals (guy stuff). I gotta say, though, it sounds disgusting to use. You really just rub some on the pad in the shorts, or on the skin?? Does it seep through and stain the leather seat? Does it dry to a crust? Gimme the gory details and any hints, if you would, please.

Steve Martin did a routine years ago about how to be funny. He said he started by putting a slice of balony in each of his shoes. That made him feel funny. Why do I have the impression that this Butt'r is going to make me feel like a great comedian? I should have tried a slice of balony in my shorts, it would have been cheaper.

Just used it for the first time myself. Did a 9 day, 900 mile ride and I am a believer! Pretty much just like sunscreen - squirt some on your finger tips, reach down/back to where it needs to go, and slather it on. Pull your shorts up (without getting the goop on the outside of your shorts!) and jump on the saddle. It just smoothes everything out and eventually vanishes - time to re-apply. Wash out your shorts and your ready for the next day. No noticeable residue anywhere.
cream on pad, not on handphilippec

... okay, I'll be the first to admit that there is something horribly wrong with the title to this post....

Here's the run down.

1.Slather the cream on the pad (esp. in the area where you want to get relief in the corresponding zone on your body.

2. From the outside, grab the pad area so that it folds in on itself (cream side to cream-side).

3. While still holding the pad closed, insert your feet into the leg openings and pull the shorts as far up as possible.

4. Release the pad and finish adjusting shorts.

5. Stammer some response to your wife/girlfriend who you have just realised is in the doorway and has witnessed in utter disbelief (verging on disgust) the whole gory procedure.

At least you won't have cream all over your legs and hand!

A+

Turn shorts inside out

Put the Butt'r on the pad

With shorts still inside out step through the leg holes and pull up, keeping them inside out until they are close to being the right proper height

Grab the waste band and pull them on

It's great stuff...I apply it to the "delicate" skin (The skin area that contacts the saddle) before each ride. If it's going to be a 50 miler or longer, I apply to the shorts and skin.

It does not crust up...it does not stain, there are no physical "reminders" left after the ride showing that you smeared Butt'r on your "delicates" befoer the ride.

It's a little cold and squishy when you first pull your shorts up, but once the Butt'r warms to skin temp, I forget about it.

Wonderful stuff!!

that's the way I use it anyway. if I'm doing a 35+ ride I rub it into specific areas on the pad - sit bones, intersection between inner leg and torso (you get the drift.)If I'm doing a shorter ride (1-1.5 hours) I just rub it in the general crotch area. works really well.

If you're looking for a cheap thrill though, try the Assos brand - a little like applying BenGay to your privates without the expected pain. Maybe more like Vicks Vaporub.

Gives you a REAL cheap thrill. Don't ride without it! I've tried the Nalini, but it just ain't the same =)

Been using it for about a year. I won't go riding without it. I apply it to the skin that normally got iritated.
