Isn't it interesting that a post with a ride report and 10 photos gets 49 hits, and a guy who forgot to take tubes with him gets over 600...

This board is an interesting study in psychology and marketing. I think this topic will generate more hits, but the thing that will really draw viewers is the photo icon. I originally thought that by posting all the photos in only one post, and then indicating the fact that there were photos with the [o] symbol, would make it easier to read. Well, here goes with the rest of the experiment!

Here's the link for the original post, which is just down the page.

Maybe I'm just insecure and need my existence validated by getting a lot of hits on my posts... Hmmmmmm....

And a post with a picture of a bike gets 360+. There's only so many landscape pictures people want to look at. I think it would be more interesting to see pictures of the people on the ride vs multiple shots of hills with grass on them. Post something people want to see and maybe they'll hit your post more. . .

Good suggestions about content! I'll put more people and bikes in my next shots, especially scantily clad young women (if I can find 'em!).

Gotta give 'em what they want! That's why TV has so much GREAT programming!

Wow, beautiful ride report, sorry I missed it the first time..rwbadley

and yes, like anything else, there may be a bit of marketing involved in 'selling' your topic. Many of the regulars will glance over topics to find if they are interested in going to the 'trouble' of opening the topic ;-)

I will read what some folks in particular have to say, just 'cuz I am familiar with their previous input, and find whatever they might have to contribute interesting.

Whatever, it's best not to take low post count too seriously, just move on.

Heckuva ride report btw. Great scenery. Dontcha love going from warm and sunny to cold and snowy, all in one ride!

My post about a cyclist found dead in his hotel room is at 112 reads, but above asking if you store a spare tube in a pocket or seat pack gets 393 views? Some topics get way too much mileage; some way too little.

Agreed that a pic icon directs hits. Especially podium shots.
What dead cyclist??? Link, por favor!! (nm)PseuZQ

This is getting more and more interesting. Next I think I'll try a Friday posting to see if it gets more hits than a Wednesday post...

I haven't been close to a podium in my lifetime... Let alone any podium girls!

So, are you interested in number of views, or number of viewers?

In my mind, alot of the hit rate hinges on the initial subject line. It has to be very enticing, or very minimal.
I bet you'd get alot of hits with the topic line "Uh-oh" or even better "BIG Uh-oh."

The other thing that will draw me to a thread is if it is obvious two or more posters have gotten into with each other. Call it the WWF factor, but it's often amusing to watch people smack each other around on the board. In a non-personal, friendly debate kind of way, of course.
LOL!!! Now I've got to clean off my keyboard and screen.....!BowWow

Great insights on subject lines! I may do a research paper on this one...

When I saw your subject line I thought you had kept coming back just in case someone HAD posted pix, and were going to rag on me for NOT posting those elusive and ever-desirable scantily clad podium girls!

I recognize that multiple visits from the same person will generate multiple hits, so I can only count visits. Interesting game, though!

Why do you see 300 hits on a post that is clearly targeted to one poster, like "Paging TNSquared."

I skip these over on the assumption that the poster only wants/expects the person they are addressing to respond. Sometimes others will respond if the conent is an open question, but more often you see a bunch of views with no replies except from the person addressed.

I realize it is a public forum and anyone has the right to read any post. I just don't understand the interest. So what is it? People just want to "listen in" on the conversation?

Let me know what your research uncovers!
