|Right now, I train on an old roadbike mainly for mountain biking. I have been bitten by the road bug, however, and have come across a good deal on a Trek Y Foil. I would say I'm an intermediate rider and weigh around 160lbs.
My questions are:
1. Is the Y Foil a good bike?
2. Could I race on it locally? Someone told me that it is outlawed in international competition.

|The Y foil was designed to be the notch above the oclv 5200 and 5500 until the UCI said "nicey bikey but no racey"
So can you race with it?
That depends on the event but at UCI events the bike will not be permitted.
I have heard from numerous people the bike rides great. Trek quit production after the UCI ruling. Numerous triathletes use the bike since they are legal in those events. If it is a great deal buy it. If you get hooked you will end up buying another bike later on and if you start racing make it your race bike. If it is just a good deal you may want to pass it up and go with a "standard" design bike you could race in the future.

|On ebay they are going for approx. $1000. The one I found would be under $800. Probably closer to $600. It is is good shape and has ultegra components.|| |
