m10 & campy compatibility?Sexly

Hi, I'm new to this whole road bike thing, and I got a bike with some really heavy and crappy Vuelta Eagle rims. I found a set of Mavic's I really like but it lists them as "M9 cassette compatible" I know enough to know that is Mavic's own 9spd cassette, but will my current campy 9spd work on that wheel too? Supposedly I guess the M9 fits on any Campy or Shimano 9spd wheel so would the reverse be true as well?

Thanks

The campy spline pattern is entirely different. The M9 cassette has the proper campy cog spacing, but with a shimano spline pattern. The Mavic wheel has a shimano spline pattern, but the cassette body is a little longer to accept the slightly longer campy-spaced cogset. A shimano-spaced cogset can also be mounted on an M9 cassette body with a thin spacer behind the cassette to take up the extra length.

IMO, you should stick with a a campy compatible hubset and cassette for the best performance and the ability to upgrade to 10 speed in the future.
