Front derailer adjustment....ClydeTri

Okay..I am tired of taking my bike in for minor adjustments..time to do it myself...I have checked sheldonbrowns website, but am not clear on this, I am guessing it is VERY simple adjustment. Problem, front derailer does not want to go onto large chainring. Is this just an adjustment of the high limit screw or am I missing something? Also, which way should I turn it? Thanks in advance......

If it is a shimano you can go to their website and view tech info on their front d's that will tell you which screw to turn and the correct way to turn it..

For example, if you want the cage to move outward on a Shimano Tiagra front D, turn the top screw counterclockwise

The first question you should always ask yourself is: Did it ever work right?

If your answer is "Yes," don't meddle with the adjustment screw because that's not the problem. Most likely, your cable housing has seated and you need more cable tension. You need to unscrew your barrel adjuster about 1/2 turn.

If your answer is "No," the limit adjustment screw may the problem, but most often it isn't. I've got to tell you that excessive fiddling with derailleur limit screws is one sure mark of an inept bicycle mechanic.
