Clemson, SC good bike routes...curdog
May 30, 2003 7:16 PM
I'm going to be living on campus until early august and am looking for suggestions on some hilly and scenic routes in the area. During the week i proabably won't have enough time to drive to a good starting point, so i'd have to start from campus. So far I've only made one ride out to around pendleton and am not very familiar with the area. I'd also be up for group rides. Last of all, if anyone knows good routes near table rock, caesar's head, or something similar please let me know...my email is ccurran@clemson.edu thanks

I live in Greenville, but A good ride around here is the bakery ride, from North Gville College to Saluda and back. Paris Mountain is also fun, and you will see George Hincapie up there a good bit.
Hope this helps,
John

Want a route with good short climb at the end (garaunteed to blow the calves off the back of your legs)? Start from any point of your chosing and make your way towards Hwy 11. Turn up towards Sassafrass (sp?) Mountain (I forget the Hwy number there but it's the highest point in S.C. and easy to find on a map It's between Table Rock State Park and the Lake Keowee Bridge). In the bottom of the valley there is a little road that runs next a school called the Rocky Mountain Bottom School for the Blind. Turn onto that road (should be on your right if your heading from Clemson) and prepare for a challenging summitt and an awesome descent!!!

Years ago several of us on the Clemson cycling team loved this route. Another great place was around the Twin Lakes area. Incredible mountain biking around there too.

Go Tigers!
