|I'm finally getting a Trek 5200, black pearl carbon, next week. I've been wanting one for a long time and recently some money "fell" out of the sky so to speak, and well, I decided now is as good a time as any. I'll post pics as soon as I can for those interested. My question is this: I wanted a Project One, with the name on the top tube. But it was too far out of my budget, so I opted for the black pearl carbon 5200, Ultegra group. Is it possible to put a name decal on the tube and cover it over so it can't be peeled off? I got a decal from Long's Cycle two years ago for my mtn. bike and used nail hardener to put over it. Is there anything that would be safe to use on carbon, or should I just forget that idea? All answers, advice, thoughts appreciated.

|You said the Project One was out of your budget. You'll have to live with the fact that you could only afford the second rate, barely ridable, boat anchor, bottom of the barrel 5200.
The shame you feel and peer group humiliation will build character. Now you can relate to the Freds who show up to races on Schwinn Varistys and Huffy 12-speeds.
Train hard and keep your speed under your hat on the down-low. Show up with that POS bike and people will think you're just some chump. This gives you the element of suprise.

First of all...great bike, enjoy the ride. I just got a new frame two weeks ago. A new "toy" really puts a spark into your enthusiasm.
I wouldn't permanently attach any decal to my frame - just personal choice. I think you would be better served cleaning the area for the decal very well with an alcohol swab. Then put on the decal very carefully. If the decal comes off, buy another. Have fun. Paul

|I just had a name transfer made at a local sign shop. I went to FastSigns and it cost me $14.00 for 2. They're mounted on a carbon LOOK frame.|

I'm a big Jimmy Buffett fan and 50 is only 4 1/2 years away:-(

|Yes, they are very good quality. They're very thin and stick great. These are dry transfers not decals. You apply them by removing the backing sheet and rubbing the name on. I've had no problems with them coming off.|

|I've seen Jimmy Buffett about 5 or 6 times in concert. Always a big party. Nothing like a bunch of rowdy, drunk, 35+ types all dressed up in flowered shirts, shorts, sandals, or foam shark heads to know how to throw a party.
During one of his Cincinnati concerts, Don Johnson and Melanie Griffeth showed up on stage with him. Don was belting out the tunes in a duet with Jimmy, while Melanie stood there looking dumb. I don't remember the second half of the concert...maybe those boat drinks had something to do with it...
I almost ran into Jimmy down in the Bahama's once. My wife and I were staying on a small off-the-beaten-path island (Harbour Island) when Jimmy landed his sea plane in the harbor. He got off with his wife and kids. I tried to find him - it is a tiny island - but his private home was buried way back in the mangroves. All the locals said he was a great guy. I did run into one famous person on that trip: Marge Schott (former owner of the Cincinnati Reds and avowed racist). I traveled over a 1000 miles from Cincinnati to the warm Bahamas and who do I run into in a bar?? but Marge Schott. Not a high point.
OK...I'll stop rambling. Paul

|I saw him the first time in 1975. I've seen him play over 20 times. My favorite concert was in your area. I graduated from Miami University and had front row seats in 1980.|

|Cincinnati parrotheads have a rep as diehard. We usually sell out 3 shows per year.
Miami....hmmmm.....I won't hold that against you. Just kidding. My wife is a Miami grad.
