good shoes for orthotics?(2 posts)

good shoes for orthotics?dawgcatchr

Anyone have a recommedation regarding shoes that handle orthotics well? I just got my first pair of orthotics, and the extra volume puts my feet to sleep in my Sidi Energy 2's. I have about D width feet (just above average). I am guessing I will need a higher volume shoe if I am going to ride with orthotics. Any suggestions?

Are they full sole, cycling-specific orthotics? The reason I ask is that I have custom orthotics for walking/running, which my podiatrist recommends wearing essentially all the time. They're the 1/2-3/4 length, and I also use them in my mountain bike shoes since there's some walking usually involved (BTW I use Diadoras and they fit well, also good for wider feet).

However, they don't fit so well in my Diadora road shoes and I've found that a good substitute is the Petersen PowerBeds. They're thinner and of course not custom, but they are orthotics and they seem to support my feet fine. After all, cycling is not load-bearing.
