Howdy Pardner,
I'll be your guide today. We're gonna head 'em up and move 'em out to Virginia City, Gold Hill, and Silver City. First, let's make sure the ponies are ready to ride...

One of the gorgeous old homes. V.C. was boomtown of about 1858 to 1880 or so. Millions in gold and silver taken from the Comstock. Some folks were made wealthy, some just worked hard. The miners were paid top dollar in those days. $4/day.
This one's a 'fixer upper'rwbadley

This house was directly across the street from one of the mansions. Needs a little work I'd say. This place has been in the same family since the late 1800's.

Built in 1875. Nice place. I think the ceilings are like fourteen feet. Victorian era, lots of air needed to stay healthy.
We're headin' down the truck route...rwbadley

I think this one tops out at 8%. We're going to go back up through Gold Hill, that's where the fun is.
The next few miles a bit of a climb...rwbadley

I like to do this route a few times early in the season. After these, nothing else really seems that steep anymore.

I forgot to tell you, this is a loop and we get to do some more hills! Here's a photo of an old V&T caboose to ease your pain.
OK, this is the second time over this 'hump' today...:-prwbadley

This loop was 65-70 miles. Total elevation gain maybe 5000-5500 ft. Most of that gain being compressed into 35-40 miles.

We average 7" rainfall/year. It is warm in summer 90-95f day cooling to 55-60f nights being typical. Low humidity makes it comfortable. The spring and fall are usually very pleasant. The winters are 40f day and 15-20f nights. High elevation is colder. Reno base elevation around 4200ft. the higher passes here are around 8500-9000 ft. Mtn peaks are near 10,500.

Come visit, and bring money for the casinos, they've been hurtin' since '01 and California Indian gaming. ;)

Looks like a great ride. Excellent pics, wish I was there nmbigrider

Wish I could ride out my back door to all of that, but I guess NC might seem exotic to you. It's all green due to the weeks and weeks and weeks of rain we have had this spring.
Green? Rain? What's that? ;-) nmrwbadley
