|I'm contemplating building a TT bike and am curious how different frame geometry actually is/should be for using aero bars. I'm not looking to blow the bank on this bike since most of my riding will continue to be on my road bike.

|The pro fields seem split on whether to go with a standard road frame or tri-style geometry. The tri position will get you forward and the road frame puts you in more of a John Cobb slam position. For myself, I threw a forward seatpost on my road bike since with aerobars (profile airstryke) attached I felt I was fatiguing too easily. I need to drop my bars a bit, but so far I'm fairly pleased with the setup. That said, I'm looking for an older aero frame to mount some TT specific bars on. If you don't want to break the bank, a forward seatpost on ebay will cost you $40-50. With some clip-ons you can use the same bike for TTs and road riding.|

|For starters, my Look is way too slack and has carbon bars already that should not have clip-ons. I don't really want drop bars on a TT bike anyway.
I've been reading a bunch of the material on Doug's links- which has me thinking if tri bikes have different considerations than TT bikes, or if the same applies to both.
Also- the steeper seat tube angle vs. the slammed postioning...
it figures that there is just as much science to this as to road bikes ;)

|I think there's a place for drop bars on a TT bike - a TT with both flats and a significant amount of hills. But yeah, in general, the clip-ons aren't as good. Thus the reason I'm moving up to a TT frame myself. But I'll stick with road geometry and a forward seatpost more than likely.|

|I just did the same thing. I bought a Bp Stealth TT frame and deep aero full carbon fork from bikeparts.net. I ordered DA components and carbon cranks. The most expensive part was the Profile Carbon X aerobars. I already had a set of Specialized Tri-spoke wheels so the whole project cost a little over $1000. The bike looks awesome and rides great.
As far as the frame goes, it's a compact geometry frame so I just had to extend the seat post to where it fit properly. Then I measured the post extension and ordered the aero carbon post from bp stealth. The frame has a shorter top tube and a more upright seat tube angle. I bought the Profile bars with the 120mm stem which is identical length to my road bike. This frame/bar combo made for a perfect fit. It's really comfy to stay down on the aero bars and my back never gets sore.
