HELP Needed...I am in pain(11 posts)

HELP Needed...I am in painRockin Johny

I seem to be having a bit of an issue with, what I would call saddle sores. Not sure if that is what they are,but that is all I can relate them to. Basically I seem to be getting "boil like" inflamations on the saddle contact areas of my inner thigh/buttocks. They are extremely painful.

Questions: Are these what are referred to as saddle sores? What can be done to relieve the discomfort? What can be done to stop them from reapppearing?

Thanks

John

Boils versus rashes? A red area, which can be puffy and may have a peculiar texture, and may itch or sting like a son-of-a-gun, might be a fungal infection called jock itch, or a close relative such as the fungus that causes athletes foot. These are cured with antifungal ointments such as Lotramin. It helps to keep the area covered with a gauze bandage to allow the ointment to work without rubbing off. Clean your riding clothes with something that will kill fungus, and keep 'em clean.

Actual blisters or small raw spots due to rubbing can also occur, and are friction-induced. I've never had these in that area, but have had them on other body parts, especially hands. Stay off the bike until they heal, try not to break the blisters, apply antibiotic ointment if they do break, and apply antibiotic ointment to raw spots. Again, bandaging may help. Avoid the problem in the future by changing to a more comfortable saddle, switching to riding apparel that has better seam design or padding better suited to your anatomy.

One last possibility: an allergen is at work. Padding or elastic containing latex could cause such problems for those with a latex allergy. Some laundry products could also be at fault, or something contaminating the saddle.

Thanks.

These are actually like Boils or big zit like areas. If punctured they are likely to ooze or bleed. They only seem to appear after rides and usually in the same spots. Will happen after riding any one of my bikes...doesn't seem to make a difference. What about a chamois cream or similar product.

Sounds suspiciously like encysted acne ...Humma Hah

Acne can strike the butt. Messing with acne (lancing it, for example) can cause it to form cysts than cause recurring eruptions in that spot darned near forever. I'm about over mine ... I'll turn 50 in a couple of months and I've about gotten over a couple of acne cysts on my nose that I caused at about age 15.

If it is acne cysts, or a related staph-like infection, a dermatologist may be able to do a minor surgical procedure to destroy the cyst permanantly. No other treatment is likely to fix it. Staphlycoccus aureus is very talented at walling itself off from the body's immune system in little fortresses of pus.

Such a cyst or zit can occur where a hair has in-grown. Hairs in that area can either break off, or if you're a shaver, can be cut off below skin level, and then get doubled-over when they grow. This often results in a staph infection of the folicle.
Unfortunately.... a coworker just had this...funknuggets

Well, good and bad news. It sounds suspiciously like a recurring saddle sore that does exactly what you say... creates a cyst-like structure. A coworker who is a cat 3 cyclist had one or two removed...like cut out... from his rear and he was off the bike for about two months... yikes. However, he did buy a second house during that time so Im not sure if it was a combination of the two that created such an extended downtime... but he is back on the bike now. He said that if he had to do it all over, he would have a dermatoligist to it instead of a general practitioner/surgeon.

Hope that helps:

I've had the same thing since September because I kept riding when I should have stopped. It will get worse if you don't stop and let it heal completely.

only in a different yet equally distubing location. They would start out as small painless pimple like things in appearance. Some of them would sometimes flair into the larger more painfull boil/zit thing you're describing. My doc prescribed this stuff called phiso-hex which is an anti-bacterial soap. that did the trick after a couple weeks of use.

I am in the same boat, as i posted yesterday. Went to the Dr. today and was referred to a dermatologist to have it removed.

The first time it flared up, surgery seemd pretty drastic, now I can't wait to get it done and over with.

I wash THOROUGHLY, wear clean shorts EVERY time and yet the little !@#$% still showed up. May have to look at replacing the BG Pro with a Flite Gel...
