Experience with Trek Warranty?r-kelley

I was wondering if anyone has had positive or negative experience with Trek in the area of warranties. It looks like I have a cracked chainstay on my 02 5500. I think it must be from the chain hitting the chainstay during some chainsuck. Can I expect any help from Trek or should I start saving my money for a new frame? Thanks in advance.

If they don't warranty it, let me know, I will buy it off you for $100 if they say no.

if so, what would you do with it? nmFez

Trek built a brand new factory just for frame replacement. SO count on getting a new one for free or a small reaplcement cost depending on your LBS and how/who they are. Trek used to just build a ton of frames trying to factor in how many they would need. This was very expensive. So, now they build them almost on request and I know for a fact right now they have extras.
be sure to report back, let us know how it goes. good luck!Drone 5200

We would definatly try to get you the new frame, chances are you will be awarded one at least in my opinion.

so talk to your local dealer

However you would need to pay to have all of the parts switched over

I too work at a Trek dealer and we'd send it in for you for sure but what Trek would say is a bit of a question mark just based on the Chain suck--that's a tough one because it's not like the frame failed in the true sense.

you won't get hosed but it may not be a free new frame either.

The Trek Rep was at the shop when I dropped it off last night. Shop guys are sending it back by this weekend and said they will let me know what is going on when they find out. They told me to expect to lose my ride for six weeks and start looking at new paint schemes because it will be repainted. Depending on what I have to pay to have all this done, I may buy a cyclocross frame to hold me over until the 5500 is back and then build up a cross bike to commute on. Thanks for the info and I'll let you all know when I know more.

I had a crack in the frame somewhere. It stayed at the dealer until a rep could look at it.That took 3 weeks. Then they sent it to trek, another 3 weeks. They they would replace it but would not say what they found was wrong. Then they said i could replace my very nice ice blue bike with a piss ugly green they couldnt sell.I said no and around and around for 3 more weeks until i settled for a different color. Not a good time with trek or jax's.
