Turn 50 in July.
One Schwinn cantilever cruiser (main ride) turns 32 in June.
1974 Schwinn Paramount, fixed gear
1999 Diamondback Sorrento 3x7 rigid MTB (the beater)

Fantasy bikes: the two Schwinns ARE my fantasy bikes. The 'Mount needs a few components replaced with classier retro stuff.

I don't really want to own one, but I do REALLY like the look of Richard Moon's cobalt blue bike with the gold lugs.

How much does it cost to get a patent these days?Kristin
May 16, 2003 10:22 AM
I heard it was around $8,000. Is that correct? Just curious. My great grandaddy was an inventor. Unfortunately, he decided to invent a new car in 1948 and was promptly bankrupted. The 1950's automaker scene was brutal.
How much does it cost to get a patent these days?PdxMark
May 16, 2003 10:52 AM
As with everything, it depends...

Technology, complexity, inventor help...

But, $8,000 to get a patent application filed is in the middle range (or low side of middle range) - for complexity, technology involved, etc. Many applications can cost $10k-$12k to get filed. Expect to add another 50% to get it through the Patent Office - and feel lucky if it stays below 50%.
How much does it cost to get a patent these days?firstrax
May 16, 2003 3:23 PM
You can file a provisional for little money to buy you some time. Then you can research the validity of your invention.
How much does it cost to get a patent these days?PdxMark
May 16, 2003 8:31 PM
There is a trap with provisional applications. A provisonal application is effective to establish a filing date only if the provisional meets the description requirements of a regular patent application. 35 USC 112. The Patent Office will accept anything as a provisional filing, so you don't know if the filing actually meets the description requirements. Use provisional filings with caution.

After my remark about aluminum's 'harsh' ride qualities and my recent 4 3/4 hour century...he remarked that aluminum won't affect me since I obviously had a "leathered ass" anyway. a Colnago C40 w/Record Carbon or Litespeed Ultimate with Dura-ace, or a Trek 5900 with flame paint job., then I'd have the ultimate European bike, the ultimate Ti bike, and the ultimate American bike.

keep on dreaming huh....when I win the lottery...

I'll be lucky to pick up a cheaper Litespeed with Chorus as my next road...in a about 5 more years. Then I'll have 13 years on this C'dale... I hope it last....

Dream bike ---- I am in mid search. After almost buying a Merlin ExtraLight or Calfee Tetra, for not much more can get a fully custom Serotta Legend Ti with the ST rear... I am surprised not more dreams are for a Serotta? I am missing something, I thought they were one of the best allaround. How come you do not see them in the Giro tho?
