3 week old Wireless Flitedeck Not Registering Speed(10 posts)

3 week old Wireless Flitedeck Not Registering SpeedBaadDawg

Went for a ride today after a 5 day layoff due to weather (on the trainer on my old bike) and when I woke up my Flitedeck it would not register any speed. Fiddled with the wireless sensor on the fork and thought playing with it a bit did the trick (it was registering) but about 5 minutes later when I left the house to go for a ride it was not registering again. Fiddled with position but to no avail. Will check the battery on the sensor tomorrow and/or bring it back to the LBS.

Anyone else have this problem? I was told the older 6500 units had short battery life because they did not go into sleep mode but the problem is not the main unit its the wireless speed/fork sensor.

Someone else posted not to keep the sensor aligned with the magnet when storing the bike as this could discharge the sensor battery. To be honest I have no idea whether or not they were aligned those 5 days off or not.

Sounds like a battery problem. If it's the original then replace them. Had the same problem after 3 - 4 weeks when I bought mine. Replaced the batteries in both the head and the sensor and haven't had a problem since.

Your 3-week-old FD may have arrived with a weak battery.
I'd go to Radio Shack and ask if they have a replacement
battery that has a higher AMP rating....(I got one for my Vetta Wireless Cadence transducer....that thing eats batteries every 600m.....I'm keeping record of how long this replacement lasts)
10-year-old basic Avocet 25 still working fine, though...cory

Every time I want to go high-tech with my computer, I go back and read the threads on Flight Decks and stick with what I have....
FWIW, though, I've almost never found a problem that a new battery didn't fix.
%-) Flight Deck is like WinXP.....coonass

Flitedeck working again after testing battery in wireless fork sensor and finding out its toast.

Wondering when the battery in the main head unit will crap out next. Programming the Flitedeck is not too hard. The problem are the absolutely terrible instructions.

I still really like the flitedeck. I like seeing my gearing all the time and the cog tooth numbers when shifting. And I like being able to change modes from the hoods and not having to fiddle with the unit.
Great...coonass

I got the wireless FD primarily to help me develop and maintain a good cadenence for improving my ride and I love it, but it was a pain in the @ss to go through the steps to turn on the modes after using Advocets and Mity 3s all these years. (Hey Guys/Gals....I realize that it's only a virtual cadence, but still better than me having to 'count & multiply'.....close enough for me :)) It's amazing that Shimano can produce teriffic products, but their literature absolutelY SUCKS!!!!! (is this to 'support' the LBS??).

The only thing I don't care for is the SW or stopwatch mode. If you set it for instance to time/distance an interval or a segment of a ride, you can't view the details other than time elapsed from the hoods. It involves using the buttons underneath the computer, I think with the computer out of the mounting bracket (not sure on this).

That is not a good feature at all. What's the point of viewing interval information after the fact, or needing hands off hoods and buttons underneath the unit to see the info.

Maybe I am missing somnething on how to do it right (always possible) but I don't think so.
I think I've got your answer....coonass

once you're in the SW mode, just click the button under your right-hand hood. Just click it once, do not hold it down for over 1/2 second. This should solve your problem.

that the previous URL also has Manual for the 6501, but for some reason my link to it is not responding...that is why I sent the 6500... you should be able to access it through the sent URL....
Hope this takes care of your problems....
