I have always used cork bar tape, but am intrigued by some options available in foam... anyone use foam? Anyone have a reason NOT to use foam? I'm not even sure WHY I have always used cork... it is just one of those things I've never questioned, if you know what I mean.

I buy whatever the LBS has on the shelf in the color I want (not cloth or plastic, though). I haven't found it makes a whit worth of difference. Some might be slightly more shock absorbing but they're usually thicker, which makes the bar bigger. For me that's not an issue 'cause I have big hands. Could be for some. Some might be slightly tackier but again, it's a small difference. I find the gloves much more important.

I have Cinelli Cork on one bike and specialized foam on another. The foam seems cushier (although thicker) and more wear resitant.

I think foam is more comfortable but it is more slippery if your hands sweat a lot.

I just re-taped my bars last night with some foam 'Off the front' tape. Very easy to apply, doesn't tear when you tug on it, and it feels pretty cushy, but it doesn't look as nice.

Give the new Cinelli Gel Cork, or whatever it's called, a try. I just wrapped it on one bike and will switch to the others as needed. It doesn't have that old nasty adhesive the Cork tape has (sticks to bars unless you remove it before intalling) and is very cushy.

I like cork I keep trying new foam tapes as they come out but I dont really like the way they feel as much as I like the way cork feels..My favorite brand of foam tape is the Deda stuff. One thing I like about foam tape is that it is eaiser to wrap then cork.Next time I wrap my bars I will use cork! Esp. in the summer when its hot because foam tape is slippery. By the way I hate wearing gloves! So were talking full on tape feel with bare hands here!
Cinelli or Colnago Cork or Grip...DINOSAUR

I've tired various brands of foam tape and finally settled on Cinelli or Colnago black cork tape. My LBS always has it in stock and I don't have to stand there and decide which color I want. Black doesn't show the grime and looks good with any color. Next time around I think I will try the Cinelli Gel tape, if they have it in stock. I've also used the Colnago Grip tape, which I liked, but the cork tape held up better.
