| How do you install a chain? | chrisbaby May 14, 2003 6:46 AM | | Specifically, a Dura-Ace 9-speed chain. How do you make sure you have the right tension? Is there a particular gear the chain should be in while installing it?
Thanks in advance |

There are many methods people use to install a chain. I put the chain on the two smallest rings. I then overlap the ends of the chain under the chainstay. I pull the slack until my derailleur cage begins to move. I then mark the chain and break the appropriate link of chain. With a Shimano chain, once you have the correct length, you insert the little pin to hold it in place. Then with a chain-tool push the rest of the pin through the chain and break off the front half. Twist and wiggle the link to loosen it up a little. It has a tendancy to be sticky at first.
It would be a good idea to get yourself an extra pin for the future. |
