|I've got a chance to pick up a much-used Bianchi frame/fork dirt cheap; it's lugged steel, has absolutely no indication what model it is and is old enough that the rear spacing is 126. The problem with it is that the paint is badly chipped, and there is some rusting, which seems to be confined to the surface.
Is there a good way (wire brush/sanding/naval jelly?) to deal with the rust, or should I just take a pass on this? If I go ahead, is there a particular primer you recommend?
How cooperative is Bianchi about supplying decals? I'm not trying to duplicate the existing look; just want the head tube "badge" and the "Bianchi" logo for the various tubes.

|There's lots of lugged steel Bianchi's out there, not all of them are worth messing with. Of course this depends what you want to use it for. Although the Japanese Tange frames are nice riders and would make a great beater or fixie, I would not throw too much effort into a non high-end Italian model. Check for a Columbus decal, and engraving in the fork crown, and seat stays (nicer japan models have this too). The drop-outs should be the most telling. If Tange then a Japan model, if Campy or Gippime then Italian (although they are not always marked.) Use jasco or similar paint stripper, and wire brush the rust. Bianchi offers only modern decal sets but there is some repros of the vintage stuff around on the web (sorry no address handy). Plus there seems to be NOS sets of the non "rare" sets on ebay and other sources.|

|I was riding home through Simi Valley on Saturday morning--heading eastbound on L.A. Avenue. I saw the river trail and decided to give it a try, hoping to save time with all the red lights on L.A. Ave. That thing is a massive POS. The drainage swales that are billed as "dips" are more like the half-pipes I used to encounter at skateparks. You have to slow to about 15 mph to make it through safely. To make matters worse, what's up with having to dismount and cross streets on a river trail? Every river trail I've ever ridden had underpasses that allowed riders to avoid crossing streets. Whoever designed that thing clearly doesn't ride. Sorry about the off-topic rant.|

|Yeah, I agree that the bike path is a pretty poor example. The best that can be said for it is that it keeps you out of traffic. What can I say? I didn't design or build it--I just paid the taxes for it ;-) You'd have been better off taking Royal or Alamo from the west side to Tapo Cyn or Yosemite, respectively.|

|I don't have a clue about the rust. Not an issue here. You can't get something to rust if you strip the paint and leave it outside -- just too dry.
You can get decals from Bianchi USA online.
