The most reliable 26" wheelset for commuting?(3 posts)

The most reliable 26" wheelset for commuting?LinuxDude

I'm looking to replace my Trek 930 commuter bike's rear wheel b/c it is frequently going out of true. Can anyone recommend a bombproof wheelset that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? Weight and aero dynamics are not a concern for me at all. I know Mavic makes some great wheels and rims but they are also quite expensive. Besides Mavics are there any other good wheels/rims to consider?

Thanks,

if rear goes out of true often tension must be all over the place it needs to be rebuilt. Good wheel builder can do it under 15min I've done it many times for friends and self

Your old hub probably isn't worth rebuilding, so just have 'em build up a LX hub with a decent rim and 14/15 spokes and brass nips. Make sure it's hand-built, not pre-built. Should cost $100-150 or so...
