I'm not sure what I'm missing but it doesn't look any different to me.
As a cycling entusiast I find his site to be an invaluable resource, but as a web developer it makes me cringe.
I also notice that he offers his services to others. If they are anything like his my only advice would be to stick to bikes.

It's Sheldon's look, not his site's look, that has changed.

so I can't comment on THAT new look.
Funny that I associate the name Sheldon Brown more readily with a website than a human being.
He's a bit of a throwbackfiltersweep

Obviously he's never heard of broadband if he thinks graphics slow things down.

Sheldon is a bit of a throwback... I'd expect no less than circa-1994 HTML ;)
great content great design...dotkaye

for those of us on dialup (about 80% of the world), his design is wonderful. When I arrive at a site that wants to download great steaming lumps of graphics and/or Flash content, I simply leave. Doubtless graphic designers and the like don't care for simple text, but it does communicate more information faster than anything else. A picture is worth a thousand words, but only occasionally.
have to disagree on the "great design" commentlaffeaux

Although the site has incredible content, the design is poor (regardless if you have broadband or dial-up). You can have a well designed site with minimal graphics. Sheldon's site is nearly impossible to navigate, and if it weren't for the "search" feature I'm not sure I'd ever find anything. A good information architecture and clear navigation structure do not require high bandwidth, and the site has neither. Fortunately the wealth of content makes up for the lack of structure.

It looks like he's wearing a jail orange jumpsuit, which would work well with the new 'doo. ;-)
