It was good to here that wearing SPDs on my road bike isn't too horrible. To answer everyone's question about shoes I have tried Sidi, Sidi mega, northwave, look, pearl izumi, time, shimano, specialized, and carnac shoes. Most don't fit at all due to a very long 3rd toe, and the wider shoes are OK, but not real great considering the cost. Also I have severe arch cramping with any road shoe that I have tried. Shimano sneaker mtn shoe with an insole is fairly comfortable and is very inexpensive. I figure that if they all hurt, why get more expensive shoes.

Thanks again for your input, this is a great resource for the beginner.
