i have been posting a lot lately looking for advice about getting my first road bike. so far, i have been told that with my current budget of 200-650 dollars, i should probably go with a used bike. my new question is one about which components to go with. what is the lowest stuff i should go with - the used bike store has some Fuji League bikes for REAL cheap, but they seem pretty basic with shimano 2200 stuff. would this be a good beginner bike, or would is it just TOO crappy? anyways, any advice on what components to look for in this price range? sora? tiagra? 105? or will less quality stuff suffice. i will be riding

Shimano 105 should be fine.

In the last 5 months I bought 2 Specialized Allez bikes on eBay. They are both all 105 components, had very few miles on them (looked new when I got them) and sold for about $500 each. There are some good buys there if you know the size of the bike that you need.

If you go the eBay route, ask a lot of questions before you bid. Bikes are sized a lot of different ways. For example, the Specialized Allez 52cm has a 48cm seat tube. Specialized calls it a 52 but sometimes it's put on eBay as a 48, sometimes a 52. I have seen 52s on eBay that were actually Specialized 56cm (that bike has a 52cm seat post).

So, get as many measurements from the seller as you can, do some research on the bike manufacturer's web pages and you might find a good deal. I wanted to buy a used bike locally but found very few advertized in the local (SF Bay Area) newspapers, Yahoo, etc. I found a lot on eBay.
