|POLL: How long have you been shaving your legs?||jaybird|
May 8, 2003 10:03 AM
|I started as a freshman in high school for the state swim meet.
I remember my dad teasing me by saying "I can't believe my son shaved his legs before his face" FWIW, I didn't have to shave my face for another 6 years

|I've come to rely upon the assumption that shaving prevents/lessens the impact of crashing ,ie.. road rash. So.... who would need to shave if their winter rides consist of rollers/trainers or outdoor rides with the covered legs?
***warm winter people excepted***
FWIW, I shave all year
May 8, 2003 11:56 AM
|Not for riding...but for..er...well....nookie. It takes about 3-4 weeks for my leg hair to grow back in before it isn't scratchy anymore - same with the face. 3 to 4 weeks is too damn long!|
|Why shave when you can wax?||Charlie Amerique|
May 8, 2003 12:45 PM
|Oh, it hurts so good.
No stubble and it lasts for a month.. add to that every time I have it done, the hair is less and more fine and lighter (as opposed to when I shaved and it came back thicker and darker).
Shaved for 6 years, waxed for 2 (skipped 3 years between).

|She's been doing it herself for 15 years so she's pretty good. The first time was painful (my first and her first doing someone else) but it is less and less painful each time.
Of course if I had my bikini done it would be by a professional, but I've given up wearing thongs when I ride. ;:^)

|Well, okay, I haven't actually done it yet. The mountain biker in me screams NOOO! On the other hand, I have "trimmed" my legs a few times with hair clippers. Usually down to a number 1 (that's 1/8"). That way I get most of the advantage without the total "girly" look.
My wife doesn't like the idea of me shaving my legs any more than I like the idea of her NOT shaving her legs. Next week I'm going to do the real thing though. (After my mother in law leaves town - she would be merciless).

|Before I shaved my head, I used number one. I guess the same lies before me in terms of my legs! Matno, my wife doesn't like the idea either of me with clean-shaven legs eager. She's agreed, though, that if I get into the 170s I've earned the right to it. Now the question is: Is it my post-long ride of the week weight or my daily morning rate that earns it?|

|...you don't know how much all that hair weighs. You'll have to shave it off to find out if it puts you under the mark!
I'm the opposite. My wife doesn't want me to shave because I'm too skinny. Well, actually, that's why she doesn't want me to wear spandex in public. I've been wanting to shave my head for a few years now, and she says NO WAY! (She thinks I'll look like I have cancer because I'm so skinny). Well this week, she actually said I don't look as skinny as I used to (that was a compliment) so maybe I'll just take the plunge and shave my legs AND my head!

|I bet she'll warm up to your shaved legs once she gets used to it and if you don't let them get all stubbly and scratchy. I mean how often do you get a woman who says she loves a guy with a hairy back? I live in Boulder, CO where legend says "men shave their legs and women don't" so you don't really look like a freak here with shaved legs. Then again when I go back to visit my dad in Iowa you get a few strange looks. Personally I liked the look of my legs shaved so much that I now do my chest and arms as well. Takes another 5 minutes tops and my wife loves it. After all...you can get road rash on your arms too.|

|When the weather warms up a little more, I may take the plunge -- so long as I drop those extra 5-10 pounds! I'm just afraid I'll wind up being stubbly all over! Do you generally just shave up to the knee or to the thigh as well?|| |
