You always get let down when you meet professional cylist, most have an ego the size of Texas and don't have time for anyone but themselves. Well finally I met one that is non of the above. Gave Tony Cruz a lift after the race in Aiken SC last night to help him get to his destination in Atlanta. Must say, one of, if not the nicest professional cyclist I've ever met. Answered all types of questions about the classics and such. Even shared some tips to help me and my friends out. Definately a stand out in the peloton as far as I'm concerned.
That's cool to know...He's one of my favorite role models (NM)Swat Dawg

I couldn't agree more. I spoke with him two nights ago after the crit in Walterboro and he couldn't have been nicer. I didn't get the feeling that he was in any kind of hurry, he answered all my questions about his break in Paris-Roubaix this year, how Hincapie's doing in his recovery, and he even had time to let me take a photo with him. I could have kicked myself afterwards as I had a signed Hincapie pic from P-R last year with Cruz in it that would have been cool to have gotten him to sign. Definitely a cool guy that I'm going to follow in the races from now on. Big contrast from a certain ex-track Navigator rider that I tried to talk to after the race.

I don't want to mention any names but it bet it sounds like Narty Mothstein (some letters may be re-arranged to protect the guilty).

I'd say that's a pretty good guess. I've heard more than one story from folks that met him out in Cali and not a one of them was really all that good.

I'm glad to hear that you had a much different experience with a different pro though. A few of my friends met Georgie here in Austin at the Ride for the Roses a couple of years back and had good things to say about him. I personally didn't get to meet him, but.....I did get to fenagel my way into the rooftop party where LA and Robin Williams were watching the downtown crit. Someone from LAF contacted a different friend about using the apartment because of the nice view and balcony. Long story short, I'm still kicking my own ass for not having a camera that night. No pic, but definitely a handshake with both and some free beers.
