The bad, the horrible, and the really f*&king ugly! I met JL (John Lauber) from this board at a little church in Manor Twp, PA. I had done this ride 2 years ago and I knew how bad it was. He didn"t. It's billed as "The hardest metric you'll ever do" and it lives up to it's name. 6500 ft of climbing may not seem so bad, but over only 63 miles it allows for very few flat stretches.I did the 3 state 3 mountain challenge last year that some RBR members are doing today as well, and trust me, that is a cake walk compared to this. There are 2 sections of flat roads in this, and that is it. One climb on River road covers several miles and has several really steep sections in it (JL has a Topo USA program-he can fill in the ugly statistics). A really steep decent goes down to Otter creek and then a short flat area, followed by a short climb that had the impact of causing JL and a rider with us to exclaim "Oh my god!" when they saw it. My goal was to finish under 4 hrs. I just barely made it at 3:59! Don't beleive that it can be that bad? I DARE you to try it next year! BTW-redeeming qualities? Free hot dogs, drinks, and icecream at the end, plus, FREE massages =).
Oh, I should mention;KG 361

JL did great, especially considering he has only about 500 miles this year. Good guy to ride with (he's at least as tall as me, so I can actually draft him). Nice guy, nice bike. Good ride today =)
