Palm Springs MS 150, rain in forecast!closet roadie

The Palm Springs MS 150 is this weekend and there is rain in the forecast for Saturday, the first leg of the tour. Living in Southern California, we don't have to deal with this type of problem very often. How much will 75 miles in the rain suck? I know I could probably turn in my donations and be on my way, but I can't let a little rain stop me!

Looks like perfect riding weather to me! Shows high of 81, max humidity of 41% and only a 20% chance of rain! Doesn't get much better than that. UV Index is high, so wear sunscreen...

If it does rain, at that temperature, it's not bad at all... just wet. You will dry fast at that humidity, so it shouldn't be too bad... if I lived on that side of the country, I would ride that ride.

At those temps, it's no biggie to ride in the rain. Lycra drys fast. Just be careful and remember you can't stop/turn as quick in the rain. Star your braking MUCH earlier than you normally would and feather the brakes several times to dry off the rims.

Actually, day 1 starts in Fontana and goes just past Redlands, topping out at an elevation of about 3000 ft, still about 40 miles from Palm Springs. It's quite a bit cooler until we hit the desert on day 2. The forecast is 45 degrees at night/60 degrees in the day with a 60% chance of rain. The local news is talking it up to have 2 - 3", but who knows?

I have a Fox clear rain jacket that is long enough to cover my a$$ and shoe booties so I think I'll stay dry enough.

Personally, I don't like those rain jackets. If it's not too cold I prefer to just use my jersey and let it dry when it stops raining-I sweat profusely with those vinyl jackets on. I did one MS 150 and it rained-hard with hail for about 50 of the 75 miles the 1st day. Had the option to do a century that day. Bagged that idea. That was not a lot of fun.
