|Experiences with Moots Custom work?||MikeHendrix|

|Hello everyone, |
I?m curious if anyone has had experience getting a custom frame from Moots. I really like the Moots Vamoots but need a custom size and maybe some geometry changes. How well does Moots handle custom sizing and design?
I know that custom frames are not really their primary business but I?ve talked to them and they seem very willing to do customs. I had been considering a couple small custom builders as well, but even though looks are not everything, the Moots frame is the nicest looking frame of the bunch. Of course if it doesn?t fit right there isn?t point but I?m hoping some folks here have gone through the custom process with Moots and could let me know how well it worked for them. I?d probably use Speedgoat as the intermediary for building the bike.
I think I have a rough idea of the frame dimensions I need but I am going to have a local ?expert? shop do a Serotta fit cycle fitting. Does Moots double check anatomical measurements as well? (I forgot to ask them when I called them).

|if no one responds you might try posting over at mtbr.com--I think there are quite a few Moots owners over there. If it was me I probably wouldn't ask for anything more than a custom tt length from them. Not sure what you're looking for or what fit issues you have, but they also are now offering a compact design in case your main issue happens to be standover. Or if you happen to just want a longer top tube you can order a Hampsten ti frame, which is a Moots frame with a 1cm longer tt (last time I checked, anyway). Good luck!|

I had a semi-custom bike built for me by Moots. I am only 5'1" and I needed a nonstandard size frame (with 650 cc wheels). They had built 43 cm frames for other small riders and they sent me their geometry specs. I took that info to my LBS and using that, my old Trek and numerous measurements, we decided that the semi-custom specs would work for me. I would be hesitant to spec too much of the geometry as the Moots guys know what works.
There was another fella at my LBS who customized a Moots - he's a big, strong guy and he wanted one or two of the tubes beefed up.
Anyway, the Moots guys are very willing to talk to you and customize the frame. They will work directly with you or with your LBS, whichever you prefer. I'm not sure if they (Moots) check anatomical measurements but your LBS should do this for you.
I think you'll like the result unless you insist on something that's not workable and I'm sure the Moots guys would tell you. Anyway, I ended up with a great fitting bike that handles extremely well. You wouldn't believe how well it descends!

|Glad to hear it worked so well for you. I got a used Rigor Mootis which I love and wanted to get a new road bike. I got a few geometry issues that I am going to pay the local competent shop to work out for me as well but I'm glad to hear Moots will work directly with you on it. Guess I better give them a call and see how it all works. |
