I've noticed several Italian bike manufacturers to include these symbols in lugs, paint and logos. Any clue why?

a life of cycling may be exciting and action-packed and addictive, but it can put you in the poor-house as well.

Not the "real" answer, just what I came up with. Otherwise, I don't know.
