|I'll be spending a few days at a scientific meeting in Cold Spring Harbor, which is near Oyster Bay and Syosset. I'd like to rent a road bike while I'm there. Any suggestions on where to rent a road bike in this part of Long Island?
Thanks in advance.

|I ride the area all the time. Try the Bicycle Planet in Syosset off Jericho Tpke. Call them at 516 364 4434.
If you want info on great routes let me know. It is a great area to ride bikes.

|Not sure if they rent but may have some info. They are in Huntington, the next town east of Cold Spring Harbor.
Ask for Dana.
I don't have any exact routes but Oyster Bay area has some great riding.

|Have fun. There are some great rides on the north shore.
And, thanks for the post. It's good to see there are some LI bikers here.

|My neighborhood is a great area to ride, but finding a shop willing to rent a bike is going to be tough. Many shops do not maintain a fleet of beaters to rent. Bicycle Planet in Syosset is a large shop, but I seriously doubt that they rent. You could try Bike Junkie in Bethpage. They are a small mountain bike mecca, but are the most accomodating folks around. Brands Cycle & Fitness in Wantagh is located on the South Shore and is well stocked. They may be able to set you up with something.
There are two great clubs that run a bunch of weekend rides through the North Shore neighborhoods you'll be visiting. Massapeaqua Park CC and Huntington CC can be found on the Web, and may be able to fix you up.
