I have been struggling through my first year of winter training since December. My fitness has greatly improved but I haven't been able to pull off a great ride. I have been anticipating the spring weather for a month and a half. I kept telling myself that when the weather breaks I will break out as well.

Finally, we had a great day yesterday. I was able to get free for an afternoon ride. I did an 80 mile out-n-back up Fall Creek to the end of the pavement. My average speed for the journey was 19.0 mph. I am very please with that.

On another note: I am so grateful for living in Springfield, Oregon. I took up cycling (road & mtb) a couple of years ago. Exploring the local roads and trails has greatly enhanced my appreciation of the area. The scenery for all of my rides are spectacular and the traffic is minimal. Other than about 5 miles on a busy road with a good shoulder, I didn't even see 10 vehicles.

Most of the cyclist in the area ride on the west side of Eugene. I can only remember seeing one other cyclist on my side of town since I started cycling. I wish there were a few more cyclist on this side of town that I could go out for group rides with.
