|Yes, this is the Cape Argus. 10 years ago when I did it, it was 107 km around the Cape Peninsula. There were 35000 riders and it took over an hour (or longer) to get everyone over the start line! The winning time was 2:29 something, which is phenomenal considering the mountaneous route along two oceans and over the peninsula. It looks like the ride/race is getting even bigger. Now I believe it is part of the Giro del Capo (sp?).
All of these pics are from the Cape Argus in South Africa. I suspect the UCI got involved about the same time it became a multi stage international event (Giro).
