Bianchi to sponsor Team Coast - Jan Ullrich got his license!phatlizard

German TV just brought that news a few minutes ago! Can't really call Bianchi just a co-sponsor as they will pay "several million Euros" as long as Ullrich rides for Team Coast ...!
So the UCI gave Coast a real license! Probably a good deal for Bianchi - their bikes were in pretty much every newspaper/magazine/TV-chanel in Europe over the last few weeks!
what a freakin joke!merckx56

Coast should really just fold up it's tent and go away. They couldn't pay riders last year and can't pony up the dough to pay the UCI guarantee this year. Ask Frank Hoj and some others where their checks are from Coast for last year. About 1/2 doazen guys haven't gotten paid, including guys who are STILL on the team. "Hey guys, we want you to train hard, eat right, do exactly as we say, risk your lives, and for all of this, we are are going to pay you...NOTHING!" Ullrich is a joke, Coast is a joke and I think less of Bianchi for bailing them out. Are they that desperate to have their bikes in CycleSport? It's quite pitiful. It's a business and Coast can't hack it. They should really stick to selling skateboards! I feel bad for Marcel Wust because he is a class guy mixed up with the wrong people.
Get your facts straight, first.cyclequip

Then you can refer to things being a joke. The salary dispute was over monies paid over to the German tax collectors. Your rant on poor riders having to train/race and not get paid makes good Cycle Sport copy, but some of us are a little circumspect about taking UK print media at face value.

And if Ullrich is a joke, what does that make you?

if you read ant copy that has been published about the whole Coast payroll fiasco, it all has stated that they are going through negotiations with some former and current riders about non-payment of wages. Pros get paid monthly and several current Coast riders haven't been paid for January and February of the year. Frank Hoj didn't get paid for 6 months of last years season, asked the UCI to release him from his contract with Coast and they did. Same with Alex Zulle. Do you think that he just decided one morning NOT to ride for Coast? No, it was because they didn't have a team license for 2003 yet because they couldn't come up with the UCI bank gurantee.
Ullrich may have won races in the past, but has certainly gone off the rails. Yes, he is a joke, much like Mike Tyson. And don't attack me! I am fully aware that I'm just a schmuck who rides a bike. I didn't get piss drunk and run my Porsche Turbo into a bike rack and, leaving the scene. BTW, his BAC was 1.4!!! That's almost 3x the legal limit in Germany. I didn't take Ecstasy in a club and get banned from racing for six months! And he took the X 4 short weeks after his DUI! I don't get down on a whole box of Twinkies on a daily basis and plump up in the off-season! Godefroot said he needed to watched very closely from now on, like he was a small, dull child. When he takes his annual ass-whipping in July, he'll blame his woes on the troubles at Coast. It's just sad that someone with so much God-given talent can't control his impulses.
Those are the facts, look 'em up! I just did!

Hey Merckx,

Why don't you tell us what you REALLY think?:)-

P.S. I agree.
Coast is a disgrace.noveread

On one had I am disappointed Coast got a license (though the team will officially be called "Bianchi-Coast" now). I agree with 56, they should be out of cycling.

On the other hand, I'm glad they got a license so that the riders on the team can race. Coast totally hosed a lot of their foreign riders last year. How about riders like Escartin "the crab" who has had an illustrious career and a great man in the peloton? He still hasn't seen all of his salary from LAST YEAR! No wonder he wanted to retire. And don't feed me the line Coast is touting about how they are required to withold a certain amount of their salary for taxes. It's BS, the tax is being paid twice! It's just another excuse Coast is using to not pay its riders.

Coast is a house of cards. I am so happy Zulle is at Phonak.

The team should be called 'Bianchi'. The Coast guy is a jerk.nmSpunout
