tax refunds - poll - is it going to buy more cycle stuff?Fez

Waited till last nite to start doing the taxes.

Turns out I'm getting a refund. I knew that all along, but I had other things to do so filing for it wasn't a top priority.

What to do with it?

a) Save it at 1% yield (natural instinct as a result of living and growing up cheap)
b) Get Litespeed Vortex w/ Record 10 and use it as a motivation to ride even more?
c) Take a cycle tour/trip/vacation?

Or, tell us what you plan to do with yours...

Got myself a digital camera, and
i had
to get a new pc to run it. Without a doubt the best non-cycling toy ever.

Question for other photographers out there, RBR limits photo file size to 200k (I think), do you take pix at a lower resolution specifically for posting here? My camera generates files around 1mg. I can down size them to 640x800, but I see lots of physically large photos posted here that are way under the 200k limit.

adobe photoshop will do it, and many other (smaller) applications. FWIW, i take 640x480 .jpg images direct from the camera, reduce them to 500 pixels max width or 480 max height, and put them here, unmolested. no problems with the upload.

Here's what I do. I take my original, tweak it in PhotoShop. (You probably got PS 6.0 LE with your camera.) Then (with contraints turned on) I reduce the largest side of the image to 600 pixels--which will allow it to fit on the RBR screen comfortably. Then I save it to a JPEG at whatever quality allows me >185KB. (If the files is exactly 200 KB, you will have a problem uploading it. 185KB has never failed.)

Thanks for the tips....a quick test. A photo taken last week. Approx 1mb originally, re-sized and dropped it easily to 67kb. Was 2048x1536, went to 600x800. I know the pic could use some cropping and editing, this was just a quick test.

How was NY?

I'm told it(NYC) was nice. My wife went as chaperone with my elder daughter's high school chorus trip. I gave her a crash course on the camera, and got a bunch of pictures and a t-shirt in return. Digital cameras sure make photography more instantly gratifying.

If you go down to 600x400, it will elimiate the scroll bar all together.

i like
to spend it on cycling, but I've been out of work for 3+ years, so my refund's going for a couple of mortgage payments, and maybe a nice dinner out somewhere.

We got our refund almost two months ago. The dough went for a Weber gas grill, beer, weekend trip to San Diego, dress shirts (ugh), a few nice dinners, beer, kids' gymnastics classes, beer, tickets to the Manchester United match this summer, and beer. If anything's left over, I'll probably invest it in beer.

nope, the bike was last year. this year its going to be a Taylor 814c which i am getting at cost through a musician friend of mine. i was thinking about new golf clubs but decided that i needed a distraction for rainy days.

Destroyed my rear wheel in a mountain bike race two weekends ago. Tax refund had perfect timing. Just orded a pair of Mavic Crossmax SLs. They should be here tomorrow in time to race on Sat.

already picked up a pair of Sidi Dominator 4's (yep, i'm an mtb convert and still running the same shoes and Time ATACs. you'll be even more horrified to find out that i also use Fox full finger gloves!)

still mulling over bibshorts - Castelli v. Assos (that would be a major splurge and finish off the refund)

like to pick up a Pneumo on sale, too

the rest went to pay off last year's taxes :-(
