Well I finally got my first road bike (and a much better one than I thought I could afford) when I'm shifting in the back gears, going down to smaller cogs, the chain doesn't move on the third gear from the 12, then move 2 spots on my next shift.. how can I fix this? Also, when I'm in the big or small chain ring up front, I can't go into the 2 "opposite end" rings on the back without chain rub... is this normal, and if not how is it fixed? THANKS A LOT!!

I suggest reading this, then let us know if there is something you need help with. They explain it probably better than we could.

It could be a couple of things, probably the tension screw on the rear derailleur cable or the lower limit screw off a bit. What you describe on the front is normal.

If it is, I'd suggest taking it back to the guy who sold it to you and describe the problem to him. That service is part of what you paid for.
