|Shimano Dura Ace Brake lever problem.||Ryan|

|The other day I notice a small problem with my Shimano STI brake lever (2002 Dura Ace). I observed that it was no longer "closing" all of the way. If the brake level was release slowly it would close 1 to 1.5 mm away from the fully closed position. (Position lever is in when brake is not applied.) If the lever was released quickly it would snap all of the way closed. At this point the problem does not seem to affect the braking or shifting of the bike as the break calliper opens almost all of the way if the brake is release slowly.
Has any one else experienced this type of problem, or know what could be causing this problem?
Thanks for any input.

|of the STI lever and make sure there's a ferrule on the end of the cable housing. If there's no ferrule inside the lever, everytime you pull the brake, it pulls a little bit of the inside of the housing through.|

|Clean and lube both the brakes and the cables. The brake is what supplies the force to return the lever to full open. If the brake pivot is binding or gunky, then the brake won't force the lever open. If the brake is working OK, then there is too much friction in the cable. Could be contaminated, could be a kinked casing, could be a frayed cable, could be the casing liner is worn through, etc.|| |
