I am a newbie that is picking up my bike tomorrow. I was just wondering how long it takes to put a computer on a bike. I purchased a Flight Deck computer and I am just anxious to ride, but I won't do it without a computer. Thanks for the info.
You got a computer for your bike, or a bike for your computer?cory

You WON'T RIDE without a computer? Why's that? The point of all this is the riding. The computer is just an accessory. Go ride now, and put the computer on over the weekend.
An ordinary, speed-time-distance computer can be installed easily in 10 minutes or so. I've never done a Flight Deck (it's way more information than I need or want), but there have been enough horror stories posted here that I'm guessing it takes longer. Read the instructions, go step-by-step, do everything carefully and it will work. But meanwhile, ride the bike.
Have the Flightdeck installed by the shop.fracisco

Or, buy a simple computer like a Cateye or Sigma. Since the control button wires need to run under the bar tape, it will be easier (as a newbie) to have them do it for you.

If you're a 'newbie', then you're in for a nightmare of frustration in trying to install the FD.....have the Shop install it....you'll be a genius even if you can get the thing to work properly the first few times out....riding without a 'puter is great: I've enjoyed my better rides without a 'puter without having to see that I'm not going as fast as I should, etc (NO ego deflating here :))......The Cateye is simple to install; even if you want 'simulated' cadence, there's the Cordless 2...easy to install; just program the tire size and pedal.
It's not very hard to install flight deckContinental

If you do stuff like install a home entertainment system or upgrade your computer memory you won't have any problem installing flight deck. It took me about 20 minutes. it's way easier than doing something like installing a car radio. On the other hand, if you can't program your VCR, head to the bike shop. But I agree with Corey--get out and ride without it.

It took me 30 minutes including reading the instruction (not much there to read.)Riding is the most fun part of owning a good bike, you'll see. When the wind massage your face, clean out your sweat you will forget that you even have a computer.
