What would be a common front crank set for an CX bike?

Take a look at Schwab Cycles; they have a TA crankset with 48/34 rings (sweet!) and a Sugino, also with 48/34. Race Face is also widely used (and, yes, you can get a 48t Race Ring on it. I see a lot of people with Ritchey 'cross cranks, but those are probably re-badged Suginos. ...and of course there's Ultegra.

what kind of riding do you want to do? Pure CX racing would be either a single ring or a double with any 2 rings between 36 and 48. If you want to ride road on it also you might want a bigger range. You might get more opinions on the CX forum also (if you haven't cross posted this already)
