Any experience with Kona Deluxe?ridenaz

Just curious if anyone has any input about the Kona Deluxe road bike. It looks nice, is full 105, Shimano 540 wheels, and has a carbon fork for $1399. I haven't found any reviews anywhere on the net.
Thanks guys

It's not a bad bike. It's well spec'd with the component choice too. I think the stem would need to be changed. It's a regular 3T THE stem but like the pic on the Kona website shows it, you need to mount it "upside down" or the bars seem really low due to the frame's geometry. It's definately a road bike made by a mountain bike company, but it's not a bad bike at all. The shop I work at is a Kona Dealer and I have riden this bike. It's more of a recreational or sport touring bike. It's not a racing bike. The geometry is a bit weird for racing it. But if you are looking for a comfy recreational group ride bike, it's not too bad.

On saturday I just faxed in my order for a Dr. Dew for my new communter bike. Kona is a good company and their customer service is as good as any company I have ever seen. They stand by their stuff. And this road bike is very overbuilt, like you would expect of a mountain bike company making road bikes. It's not a lightweight, but it's strong and smooth riding.

Test ride it for sure though, as it feels like a mountain bike on 700c wheels. If that's comfortable to you, then it's a good buy, as it is well built and comes with nice stuff on it. As for the $1400, that's the advertised retail price. You should be able to save quite a bit off that price. I can tell you the shop I work at has it a bit cheaper, but as this is not the classified section, I won't post that information here. I will just tell you it's less, and you should find it for less too.

Hope this helps you,
Russ

I'm looking at making the switch from my 'cross bike to the Dew for commuting. There's very little info out there on this bike, but on paper the Dew looks like the best of the bunch for commuting. Can you tell me what your shop is selling them for (to John Q Public, that is).

We don't stock it, so I can't give a 100% answer. I would say knowing what wholesale is and our average markup on Kona bikes... we would put that at between $825 and $850. But that's a guess.

Thanks for the info. Since it's more of a recreational or sport touring bike, I think I'll look elsewhere, although I'll probably test ride it to see what it feels like. Thanks again.

If you liked the parts spec.. definately give it a test ride at least. Don't not ride it just becuase I think it rides like a mountain bike with 700c wheels. Ride it and see for yourself. If it's not the bike for you, at least you know from riding it. You may like the way it feels. Keep in mind, my point of reference is a Colnago Ovalmaster and a Pinarello Paris. Those are my road bikes and they are both traditional Italian geometry. That's what I ride, so that's what I am used to.

Yeah, I'll definitely give it a try, but I'm looking for something that I'll be able to race on.
Thanks
