How much should I ask for a used 600 group?(8 posts)

How much should I ask for a used 600 group?Xoc

Hey all, I'm considering selling the 600\ultegra group that's on my bike so I can upgrade to a campy setup. I'm fairly new to the road bike world, so I have no idea what these parts are worth.

8-speed 600 shifters
Front and rear deraileurs
front and rear brakes
Double crankset and Bottom bracket.

They have some cosmetic scratches, but have strong springs and are in good shape otherwise.

Suggestions?
Short answer - not much.Kerry

Suggest you cruise Ebay and see if anyone is selling and for how much. That will give you a reference. A Google might get you some numbers too. The primary "value" of this group would be for someone to spruce up their own 600 group - picking through the parts to choose the best between their group and the "new" used one. Alternatively, someone who crash-damaged parts and wants to replace rather than upgrade. The market is small, the parts are several years old and not in mint condition. You figure it out.

Not including shipping:

Brakes $30
Brake Levers $18.50
Downtube Shifters (6 speed) $12.84
Cranks/BB $26
Rear Derailleur $12.84
Front derailleur was sold with the frame.
Total: $100.18

Not too shabby for 6 speed parts from the 80's. All parts were in used condition, but still pretty good looking.
Selling things like this separately is probably the best way to go, but you never know. 8 speed Shimano 600 parts ought to bring more than that.

You realize that you will also need a new rear hub if you switch to Campy. If I may suggest, since you are relativiely new to road riding, why don't you keep this stuff. It was very good equipment in it's day which wasn't all that long ago.

Hmmm...I didn't realize that. New wheels are also in the budget, so that won't be a problem in the long run.

Carol Shelby only raced the Cobra Daytona coupes in Europe for one year. Since year old race cars usually have very poor resale value, they actually considered just leaving the cars in Europe to rust rather than pay the freight charges to ship them back to the US.

The last time a Daytona coupe sold at auction, it went for $5,000,000.
