Last Friday, I had to replace my bottom bracket. At the same time, the guy at my local shop suggested a new chain. My bike (2001 Trek 1000) had about 2000 miles on it, plus time on a trainer, so it didn't seem unreasonable.
However, when I pedal under load, it makes a grinding noise, like it is trying to shift. It is only during serious effort--starting from a stop, climbing, rapid acceleration.
I've oiled the chain, and tweaked the barrel adjust, and it does seem a touch better.
Any suggestions? Do I just need to "break in" the new chain? Or is there something I could do to fix this.

|... since chains and cassettes generally wear together... it's possible that you need a new cassette as well.
It's certainly possible to get more than 2K out of both... but OTOH, your results may vary.
What happened to the bottom bracket?
