I have been looking for some gatorskins but as I look around, my local REI sells them at the same price as the mail order and online shops. I'm not set on the gatorskins, but I want a good commuting/training tire at a great price. Any secrets? ob1coby@yahoo.com

Gearlink and other reputable sellers regularly sell tires on eBay for a significant discount.

They have awesome prices on Conti and other tires. It's in the UK, and "tyres" tend to be cheaper in Europe. They were on vacation on March, but may be back now. Worth the wait. For example, they sell GP3000's for $25 US. Not too shabby. And their shipping is surprisingly cheap for overseas.

Can anyone explain why bike tires cost more than a lot of car tires? Is all of the cost in the molds and engineering vs. raw materials. It just seems that my little bike tires shouldn't cost damn near what my giant car tires cost.
