On my weekend ride, I rode through a lovely field of flowers - it was a nice 26 degree Autumn Sydney day. In this field lived a happy family of bugs... I say lived because I think I ate half of them as they flew into me!

This got me thinking - what have you eaten lately on a ride, and I do not mean Gatorade or Powerbars?!?!

... just seems easier to swallow hard and wash it on down than to protest too much... and considering the problems assoicated with taking 'em down the only other wide open facial orifices... I'll take the bit of extra protein... too bad they don't come lightly toasted with chocolate sauce...

Be the bike.

Well, not really swallowed, it only made it to the back of his throat before it stung him and got spit out! Talk about ouch. He was crying like a baby all the way home. Good thing he didn't swell up!
Inhaled a few myself--gnats that is-- a few days ago.ridingthegyro

Never saw them. One or two even managed to get by my glasses and into my right eye. I had a hell of a time getting them out. Now my asthma is acting up...It's Albuterol and Flovent twice a day now....

Mostly gnats and flies while mountain biking. Never swallowed anything on the road.

Once while mountain biking I had a horse fly go up my nose. I thought I blew it out. When I got home I coughed up some phlem that felt like it was moving around. When I spit it out it was the horse fly, Still alive and moving.

It won't entirely eliminate the posability of getting stung, but wearing a "headsweat" will keep them from getting tangled in your hair and allow them to better escape.

Not having my hands free and not taking the time to think about it, I just leaned down and bit him. It wasn't until then that I realized I just bit into a mosqito that was full of blood from my arm.

Small moth?noveread

I dunno exactly what it was, because if I had been looking for flying obstacles as opposed to trying to hold the wheel in front of me I might have avoided whatever this thing was. It wasn't one of those ugly white moths, but it wasn't a small fly either. Yuch! Very bitter! Makes those little flies seem like nothin'!
