New Ride(7 posts)

Finally got my new ride built up. Bought the frame/fork/headset from chucksbikes.com for $120 shipped. Full 105 that I picked up on eBay in bits and pieces with my old wheelset from my TCR-2. Went with red and blue as the colors. Looks pretty sweat and rides like a dream. I'm calling it "Patriot" given the color scheme and current affairs.

My excuse for building it was that I can now hook up the trail-a-bike to the seatpost (the TCR's got an aero post) to haul the 5 year old around town and out of town too. That's the black lump on the seatpost, the hookup for the trail-a-bike.

Great job! I'm thinking of a new ride as well..I like the "understated" look you have going there. Nice touch with the red cables/cages too...

Looks like your helper has been doing some homework on the porch or maybe counting laps for you. By the way, how do you like the trail-a-bike?

(I have 3 boys. The oldest is 14 and rides with me on occasion. The other two will go too, but there has to be pizza or ice cream involved!)

Love the trail-a-bike. I've only been on one ride with my 5 year old with this bike. It was just a shake down ride, quite short but quite easy to get up to 15 mph and pretty stable.

The frame is a $45 Tange Prestige frame from www.chucksbikes.com. The fork is from him too, $65 for the frame I think. The components are all 105 that I picked up on eBay. I've got about $450 in the bike (used the wheelset that came with my TCR-2). Can't wait for an excuse to pick up one more blue Conti Ultra 2000 and totally go for the red/white and silver look. I want to put some sort of cool headtube badge/sticker on but am looking for just the right one.

Since my other ride is a very stiff aluminum frame this one really feels smooth. My 5 year old loves to play hoops in the driveway and keep score (pretending to be the team that the neighbor kids play for, the Prarire Hawks), hence the scoreboard!

Ride on!

The limited riding I've done on it has been quite smooth.
