Cool '89 Giro Andy Hampsten Posterbrian n

I seem to remember someone asking a week or two ago about finding pictures of the '89 Giro with Andy Hampsten kicking butt in the blizzard. I just found (and ordered!) this poster, which I plan to mount above my desk at work to motivate me a bit more...

pretty awesome.

I like this photo, toogtx

Serotta built the 7-Eleven bikes and they were re-badged as Huffys.

Reputedly, Hampsten didn't like the Serottas (he wasn't alone; Bob Roll rode De Rosas and 7-11 had other "defectors") and instead rode frames built by John Slawta, aka Landshark.
Lauritzen and Delgado following? nmwillem72

Man, did I want a pair. I settled with some snazzy Wayfarers with some kind of design on them. Whew! Too cool!

He's the nicest guy. He rode every mile with us, ate every meal with us, told us racing stories and even worked on our bikes for us. I couldn't get over what a nice person he is. And he still looks like a pro racer. I had him sign an old ad out of a BiciSport magazine I had where he's in a Dura Ace ad. He was fairly amused by it (the picture was really goofy).

It was by far and wide the best vacation of my life. I've gone on a lot of cycling vacations, and nothing came close.
Nice they must be ski googles...[nm]bent_spoke

Neither pics here show it, but didn't Hampsten prototype the STI system for Shimano in the 88 Giro?
Both these are climbing shots and I would guess the weight kept it off his bike on these days, but does anyone have any photos of the original STI Protos on Andy's bikes?
not nit picking, but it's actually 88 Giro BTWrussw19

The original is a photo taken by Sergio Penazzo on the Gavia Pass in the 88 Giro. It was his effort on this climb that sealed the Giro for Andy. He took the Malia Rosa that day and held it till the finish.
