|I was taking off the Duraace and noticed a large scratch
on the downtube.I like to pick at things and noticed it felt loose.The next thing I know a peice the size of a quarter just peeled off!Oh crap I thought the next thing I know I was peeling the litespeed like a fricken tangerine!
Took me 30 minutes and look at what I found underneath!!!
I like it!

Mar 21, 2003 8:15 PM
|Is that just the standard ti finish or is it bare metal? Paint over paint never works very well. My father-in-law's mountain bike did the same thing. It was white underneath though. (Which was weird because that particular frame never came in white!) The bare metal color looks kind of cool, but I'd be ticked if it were my bike. I don't like that kind of surprise (unless the bike started out pink and was a really good deal...)|

|Litespeed will refinish for repaintor $200.||NASA Noddler|
Mar 22, 2003 2:44 AM
|That Huffy thing was funny.
I have a painted Litespeed. I considered a different color last year. A painted litespeed has a prepped finish so the paint will stick (You found out different).
They will repaint for $200. Or you can have then buff the Titanium and reapply Litespeed stickers for $200.
They also charge $200 to strip off an old paint job. Maybe I'll do that myself when if i ever decide to repaint.
|they are charging to much!||the bull|

|I wonder how IF paints their ti bikes(if they use paint or plastic) and if they would do mine.I like the orange paint litespeed has) have I might do that.but IF has better paint jobs on there steel bikes(never seen a ti IF painted).
I dont really want to remove the headset if I dont have to
and though I am not a weight weenie it does weigh less with out the "plaint" job.
Mar 22, 2003 5:53 AM
|they should repaint it for free if your paint job was so crummy. They would have to be a pretty crummy company not to take care of an oversight like that!
Please tell me you saved the "paint" and weighed it! Good for your psychological speed advantage... :^)
|weight was the same as about 2 sheets of paper...||the bull|

|I was gonna get a custom paint job on My Crown Jewel steel and they wanted $900 over the normal price. I had them paint my fork, do a two color scheme with points seperating the two colors and had my name put on the top tube and that put it $200 over the normal price. I must admit, the paint is done with exceptional Quality. Yeah they paint there Ti frames. There 2003 website is out and it features a Painted Ti Crown Jewel. They use PPG paints on all there frames steel or Ti. I'm not sure If they will paint a Litespeed for you. Theres a lady in the Santa Clairita Bike Club who has a Ti Crown Jewel in Bare Ti Except the black painted panels. I liked it without paint. They have a shot peened finish thats really unique. The welding was just as good as My Moots. I almost bought this frame but had a burning desire to get steel and still have no regrets as the frame rides like magic.|

|My guess is the Team Issue frames were never painted||Fez|
Mar 22, 2003 8:01 AM
|These were special frames that the Colorado Cyclist team were racing on a few years back. Looks like that was some kind of adhesive overlay and not paint - that's why it was so easy to remove. It also sounded like the decals were applied directly over that "adhesive." I think its a good thing, because I'm not a fan of any paint on titanium and it looked real easy to remove.
I hear Litespeed painted frames are fully prepped and use quality PPG paint. The decals are then applied and a clearcoat is applied at the end. They do charge some $300+ for the paint. I'm not a fan of paint, but I hear they do a very good job.

|I also have a Team Issue from Colorado Cyclist. My understanding is that they weren't painted by Litespeed but by Spectrum Paints in Colorado (can anyone confirm this?). I've always thought the Spectrum Paint was a lot better than the standard issue Litespeed paint job. Now I'm starting to wonder.|| |
