Not new, like so many others, but 2 yrs and 8,000 miles "old". A 60cm Steelman Stage Race with mostly Dura-Ace components. Probably the most hi-tech component is the Thomson seatpost - nothing fancy, just a great ride. Enjoy

I'm old and need rise/spacers - by the way the stem is steel too.

Funny you say that. I live in Mount Airy NC which is birthplace of Andy Griffith. We have all of the Mayberry tourist stuff here (no I'm not advertising that). Great cycling though as we are at the base of the Blue Ridge Mtns.

We have a ride in June called the 3 Mtn Metric, the third climb is up Pilot Mountain (Mt. Pilot)

That's a gorgeous ride. There's something so solid about a Steelman with all the fixings up front. A+.

This is my favorite view ... I love the Steelman hypnotic swirl on the back of the seattube ... I've got two Steelmans in the family ... a Manzanita that I ride, and a baby blue SR that my wife rides (although she does have a carbon fork).

I love the color, and it's my size too. Feel like donating it to a not so needy rider?

Questions about the fork...Spunout
Mar 21, 2003 12:52 PM
Is it a 525 or 631 fork?

Do you notice that it absorbs more road shock than carbon?

What is the weight? I'm sure it is sub-20, even in that size!

Don't know about the road shock, I haven't ridden a carbon fork in awhile to compare it to. I will say it rides great, I usually ride gloveless and I don't have any comfort problems, even on all-day rides. Not sure what the fork's made of, it's either/or/a mix Reynolds and Dedacciai steel, that's all Brent Steelman says and his word's good enough for me.

I think I weighed the bike right after I built it up and it was just over 19 lbs - it is pretty light for a bigger bike. My riding bud has a 54 or 56 cm LeMond Buenos Aires (also 853 steel but with a carbon fork) and it is a boat anchor compared to this bike. But to be fair he has heavier components (105) and some pretty heavy wheels.
Cool, I ride a Lemond Zurich with Chorus 10. 853 is something!nmSpunout

Nice ride! I love steel and I'm going to go back to steel again this summer. I miss the way my old de rosa slx rides. I have an OCLV now, and something is missing from the ride. Thanks for posting.

You can also be somewhat retro and use white bar tape and black tires when you want to look like the old ONCE team from the mid 90s. On second thought, ONCE yellow is a bit brighter.

Is this a stock bike or did you get custom geometry?
