shimano valve extenders(5 posts)

Does anyone know how to use these correctly? They consist of a metal shaft and two small o-rings.

I got a set of the new dura ace wheels and still have a ton of short valve tubes so if I can get the valve extenders to work, I'll be dancin'.

I can get them to half work with out the o-rings, but they leak alot so the accuracy in air pressue is very low. I would assume that my problem is where to put the o-rings.

Thanks

Slip the O ring down over the valve, just below the threads. Then screw the extender on tight. The O ring will give you the seal you need in order to inflate the tire. If the O ring tears, and eventually it will, you can create the same seal with white pipe sealing tape.

so you only need to use one of the two o-rings they give you.

are you saying the o-ring sets inbetween the two tread types on the orginal valve? (between the valve cap treads and the metal mounting ring treads)

Yes, you only need one per valve. You want to create a seal at the bottom of the extender. So push the O ring down to the very end of the threads that the extender screws onto. This point of the valve is down about .25" - .375" from the top.
