Shill bid?terry b

I'm bettin' yes. We'll have to watch and see if feedback ever gets posted post-sale.
Shill bid? Interesting that both buyer & seller from same city..davet

guarantee that bid will be withdrawnDougSloan

When I sold my Cervelo on ebay, I kept getting high bids that were withdrawn by some idiot jerk. I think he was attempting to expose the reserve or just mess with me. This is likely a shill or just a jerk, not allied with the seller.

No one would pay that from a store, much less on ebay.

on one I was buying - guy comes in during the last 10 seconds, exposes my maximum bid then retracts leaving me to pay the max and not what I was "winning" with.

this one though I think is just to get the bidding ball rolling. at 8k though that ball isn't going to roll very far.
Shill? I doubt itAlexx

FWIW, this guy has bid on auctions for a while, and has feedback from many different people. Shills are almost always zero-feedback, or with feedback limited to one or two people. Maybe he's a jerk, or maybe he just doesn't know what something is worth-who knows?

I don't think it is a shill, and in fact you can see that the two did business together (for a salt water fish tank) in December, 2002. This buyer appears to have more money than sense, but I'm thinking his bid is legit.
just not worth it, thoughDougSloan

That bike is worth: $3600 frame, $600 wheels, and about $2000 components, or about $6200; add another $800 for misc upgrades, like the carbon crank; still, that's only $7 grand tops. No way the guy paid $9800 for it; just doesn't add up.

My guess, they are both legitamate ebay people, and are probably married to each other. They have helped each other out with shill bids before (fish tank). Feedback is no indicator of a shill bid, a good straw man always leaves straw feedback.
I know people who do it all the time.terry b

Have a friend who has his brother start bidding on the theory that if there is one bid, others will come. It can be done, you just can't do it a lot. Feedback has nothing to do with it, you just don't want the eBay police to nail you.
and you thought the stem police were a bunch to be feared (nm)53T

if the eBay police ever start looking at stems, we're hosed (nm)terry b

I'm stiil trying to get comfortable with what these guys (bidder & seller) are trying to tell me:

3 ea of Colnago C40 = 1 nicely equipped SUV
2 ea of Colnago C40 = 1 superspeed bike = 1 Hog

What's our sport coming to? Have we lost our marbles!?!?!

He spent all that money and waited 6 months, then wasn't even curious enough to have ridden it once? I don't think I could show such restraint.

Floor waxer and pads, 300. ALso a wing for his car that does not fit. Just sounds kind of suspicious to me. Waited for 6 months to unload it off of some poor shipping service.
