TCR's first hilly ride report(20 posts)

TCR's first hilly ride reportThorman

I had the day off yesterday and the temps here in NE Ohio were near 50 so I decided to take the TCR out on her first hilly ride.

For the last four months I've been putting together a hilly route near New Philly that takes in 12 climbs and over 7K of climbing. My spring legs weren't quite up for this challenge so I did an abbreviated version of the ride taking in 5 climbs with just a little over 3K of climbing in 35 miles. Here's a few shots from the ride. Enjoy!

The descent back into the valley after Meyer's Hollow. Even with all the sand on the hills I managed to hit 45 mph. This is going to be one fast ride when I can drop the hammer without worrying about hitting a patch of sand.

The fourth climb, Leonard Hill.

On top of Leonard Hill. At the beginning of this ride I was thinking about how good I was feeling, not even needing to use the 25T on any of the climbs. Halfway up Leonard Hill she was in the 25T and I was starting to feel the effects of the previous climbs. One more hill to go.

Where in NE Ohio is that? I'm orginally from the Mentor area. I live in north Texas now, so hills are few and far between. Great pics..

This route is just outside of New Philly in Tuscarawas county. About 30 minutes south of Canton.

I grew up in Akron. I miss that area for sure! Now I live in Florida, we have overpasses and bridges to climb. You need to take some rides into the Hudson area and ride thru the Akron-Penninsula valley and you get to climb out of the gorge area. It's the ride I miss more than anything. I may have to come visit you so we can do that ride sometime!

Mathias Raceway, the last climb of the day. Almost a mile long, I was really starting to feel it in the legs as I neared the top.

I forget the exact number right off hand, but it's about .5" more than my other bike and I can't say that I notice it much.

It's a size large frame, around an inch of spacers (25mm or so), and about 3.5" of drop.

I was looking at some of your pictures last week and I think I recognized your couch. I think you sold me this frame if I'm not mistaken.

Know I remember.........I kept seeing yout name on RBR and could not quite place it. Glad to see it turned out okay.......I am thinking of going to a Lagre due to handle bar height.......however I think the Top Tube will be too long.....just had mine out for the first time Friday and today.......two hours each day.......bike is AWSOME!!!!!!!! Anyway, good luck with the bike.......once your friends start wanting them, send them my way......I'll put you on commission. Until then, keep the rubber side down!!!!!
