|The Cinelli gel tape costs more than regular cork tape, but you can buy it online ($18) for about what regular tape costs at a bike shop. Has anyone tried the gel tape, and does it work any better than regular cork? Here's what Branfordbike.com says about the gel tape: |
New! Cinelli Cork Tape with Gel. Cinelli blended gel to their original polymer base and then sprinkled in a generous amount of genuine cork. This tape feels great and absorbs numbing road shock better than the original cork tape. The surface is a little smoother which provides a better grip and resists soiling. Overal thickness of the tape was increased from 1.8 mm to 2.5 mm. Edges are still tapered so the wrapping is clean and wrinkle free. The new gel/polymer blend is stronger and more tear resistant than the original blend. Cinelli Gel cork costs a little more but lasts longer and provides greater comfort.

|I got a roll from my wife for Valentine's day, but keep putting off my maintenance project (re-cabling) that will cause me to replace the non-gel cork on there now.
Someone posted the same q on the components board thuis morning and I believe they got an answer FWIW.
As soon as I get the new tape on I'll let you know if I feel a difference.

|I have been using the gel tape for about 4 months. I don't ride with gloves. There is a small amount of padding/give in the tape and I would highly recommend it.|| |
