Another Ebay scam???KenS

Someone has an ad for a 55cm Ti Independent Fab Crown Jewel. Buyers and seller identities are suppressed. There is no reserve price and free shipping.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2716415900&category=7298

I emailed the guy to ask why his identity was hidden and why he had not put a reserve price on such an expensive bike. Here is his reply:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
are u interesed to buy this bike?
reply ,me asap
bye
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Notice that buyers can't be warned because their identities are hidden also.

I think someone posted this earlier but being a bit of a graphics guy that certificate looks doctored and the free shipping. Not to mention the alias handle and no reserve....
I don't know...Fez

A new handle makes it complicated. Do a completed items search for this bike. I saw it several times over the last 2 months. Seller said he was a mtn biker. SOunds like a few specs are off. First, it looks a little bigger than 55. Second, that's a mtn bike seatpost and who knows if the Thomson stem is a mtn version (different clamp diameter).

THen there's always the possibility this is a scam where he copied the original auction. But hey, that's ebay for you.
dunno if this'll work, butdante

Hi, I was wondering if you could tell me what the serial number is, it should be stamped on the bottom of the bottom bracket (a picture as well would be even better). Sorry, with all the ebay fraud going around, I just like to be safe.

(ooops, should've said "bottom bracket shell")

I have to agree that the certificate looks fake. I have never seen one of those with anything else i have purchased on Ebay. The part in the middle looks like some Photoshop work. Also, the message they sent seems like broken english. I would stay away.

I was looking at bidding this bike the first time around. Had a buy it now for $2500 if I recall. It did not go and I emailed about selling it for a fixed price. He was not interested. Did not seem to be the friendliest fellow, or he may have been put off by my offer. But I got a real uneasy feeling around it when it showed this time around. The document seems out of line and the whole private auction thing struck me as odd.

I seem to recall him saying in the last post that he was sticking to mtn biking and did not ride it. I think he dropped a lot of coin on it and is trying to get a lot for it.

So, needless to say, I am not bidding.
I'd stay awayDave Hickey

The sunglasses don't change your history. It simply means the seller has changed his Ebay ID. The seller has zero feedback. The auction is private and the seller won't list an area of the country. It smells like a scam to me.

They will investigate these things. There have been bike thieves who have been caught this way.

I looked around but the Ebay help system was useless. It told me what to do if I had been scammed but wouldn't let me alert them to a possible scam (unless I was willing to say that I was a police officer).

I have had email interactions with lots of sellers and they are usually very helpful. This person didn't respond to direct questions.

I have been trading on ebay for a couple of years now and have not seen one single ad with this much funny stuff.

Seller id changed, okay if everything else checks, but still should email before bidding. Easy to sniff out, ask for a picture with a specific angle AND with his hand holding a specific part, can't get more reasurance than that!

Bidders names blocked, again if just this one thing still rates maginal, but would bid.

The doctored certicate, sure sign of trying to hard. This one thing would make most run!

The header not filled out right, like the state, is little fishy but on it's own not a big deal.

Add all of the things together, major scam!

How can he have a "Power Seller" certificate, yet he only registered on March 9th and has no feedback rating? Plus, he registered in Canada but says his location is the U.S.?

Big scam alert if you ask me.
There is no such certificate, all signs lead to DO NOT BID!!!!!!VO2_max
